New Music Monday: Mayer Hawthorne
So apparently this jam has been out for a while now. One of my music guru friends is a Mayer Hawthorne fanatic…he typically sticks to pretty soulful stuff and you can easily see how Mayer Hawthorne fits into that category. He told me about Hawthorne’s new album months ago and I hadn’t really gotten around to listening to it.
Then yesterday, in the middle of what I would call the epitome of a summer Sunday funday, this oh so cool track came on…
Now I know I’m a little late to be calling this “new,” but it was so perfect for the mood yesterday and the continued amazing summer weather we are having today. It perfectly represents the relaxed, easy-living state we were in yesterday afternoon.
Sun stained and covered in sand from our recent departure from the beach, Kate O, my roomie from college, and my bf sat around sipping on pain killers, playing UNO and waiting for the grill to heat up.
I seriously can’t help but groove a long a little as I keep listening to this tune. I really like Mayer Hawthorne’s comical lyrics about love and breaking up. You would never expect them to be over the upbeat soul music.
It’s got that awesome Motown groove going on that reminds me of another one of my all time favorites, the Temptations. I can dig it.
