New Music Monday: Citizen Cope
As I was about to start writing a ‘New Music Monday’ post about a different song, I got an e-mail from Rolling Stone with the headline update mentioning the release of this new Citizen Cope song, “One Lovely Day”:
I instantly clicked the link and almost immediately, the sweet, bluesy melody was hitting home to my heart and soul in the perfect kind of day-dream. From what my dear friend and Citizen Cope-lover, Anya, has told me, it is what I imagine it feels like to watch the dreamy Citizen Cope himself play live while bellowing out such beautiful music.
I first fell in love with Citizen Cope way back when he collaborated with Santana and put out “Sideways.” This tune has me falling in love all over again with Cope’s irresistible voice, that slow percussion and gentle guitar. I’m eager to purchase his new album.
After coming back from an amazing camping/hiking get-away up to Baxter State Park it’s got me smiling pretty big in rhythm with the lyrics. Remembering that there’s a lot of work to do in the short-term, the stress and accumulated tasks are oh-so-worth it for what’s coming in the long-term.
I’ve been going a hundred miles an hour the past few months, constantly stressing when I am not getting MORE done and/or not getting it done FAST enough. These past few days, like this song, really slowed me down and reminded me how good my life is and how lucky I am.
