Classic Clips: The Shawshank Redemption
The Shawshank Redemption is the definition of a classic.
It’s a serious movie and even depressing at times, but the ending is SO feel good! It really defines the feeling of redemption.
Morgan Freeman will forever be recognized as having one of the greatest voices for film narration. This scene is one of the most memorable in the film, between the music, Freeman’s narration and the acting, it creates a lasting impression.
The scene comes at the end of the first two, very tough years for Andy in prison. As a viewer you’re really starting to find compassion for the prisoners at this point.
The ending is probably the ultimate feel good scene, but this one touches on the simple satisfactions of life we so often take for granted.
At this point in the film I feel very connected to the characters and sorry for them and the conditions they suffer in the prison system, though some of them ARE in fact murderers. Yet, at the end of this scene I feel such satisfaction and almost envy-they are enjoying something so simple that free men would often take for granted.
“I think a man working outdoors feels more like a man if he can have a bottle of suds. That’s only my opinion.” ~Andy Dufrane
